16. Supervising children at cricket sessions policy

Children are registered on arrival by the youth assistant
It is a basic requirement of all sessions and matches involving children that a minimum of two responsible adults will be present in all circumstances.
Compton House Cricket Club adheres to the qualified coach ratios and supervision ratios as outlined by the ECB.
Qualified coach ratios required for coaching sessions:
• Net coaching : 1 coach to 8 children
• Group coaching : 1 coach to 24 children
• Hard ball coaching: 1 coach to 16 children
Supervision ratios
These refer to managing groups of children and ensuring sufficient numbers of responsible adults are present to deal with any issue or incident that may arise. For single sex groups there must be at least one same sex supervising adult. For mixed groups there must be at least one male and one female supervising adult or the child’s own parent/carer or designated adult.
Minimum level of supervision ratios:
• Aged 8 and over : 1 adult to 8 children
• Aged 9 and over : 1 adult to 10 children
Supervision responsibilities also encompass other duties of care, consequently responsible adults (coaches, managers, umpires) are encouraged to:
• ensure regular intervals for drinks are arranged particularly during long (20 over+) matches or in hot weather
• plan sufficient drink breaks in practice sessions and matches e.g. 20-40 mins. on warm days
• avoid waiting until a child says they are thirsty as this is a sign of dehydration
• encourage sun care
